Like in the books, movies, and other games, flying on a broom is a big mode of transport in Portkey Games’ latest RPG. It’ll be your main way of getting around outside before you’ve unlocked other mounts. While many players would’ve liked to have this feature unlocked as soon as they got to the grounds of Hogwarts, that isn’t the case. We can understand why you don’t get it early, and it is justified as you play. In any case, we’ll tell you how to get a broom in Hogwarts Legacy.
How to get a Broom in Hogwarts Legacy
Before taking to the skies, you’ll need to know how to get your first broom in Hogwarts Legacy. Like many other RPGs, major features are locked behind the main story. This game isn’t an exception. While the process isn’t long, here are the steps you have to follow if you want to get it as soon as possible:
- Reach the second day at Hogwarts (different from the day/night cycle)
- Complete the ‘Jackdaw’s Rest’ quest
- Look for the ‘Flying Class’ quest on your next day in Hogwarts
- Finish the quest and head to Hogsmeade
- Head to Spintwitch’s Sporting Needs in Hogsmeade and buy your broom for 600 gold

How to Fly High
If you have your broom already, we are sure you’ll want to fly as soon as possible. To do that, all you have to do is find the broom on your gear menu and activate it with Circle/B. Once you’re on it, all you have to do is tilt the right stick to fly high. When you’re up, you can use L2/LT to get a speed boost and R2/RT to learn forward and fly a bit faster. While it might take some time to get used to, flying in Hogwarts Legacy is quite fun and useful, as we saw in previous showcases.
Can You Unlock the Broom Early?
Sadly, no. Hogwarts Legacy has some solid RPG elements, meaning most progress is tied to main story missions. This isn’t new, as other games have time-gated some stuff to let players learn the basics before doing something new. While many players would’ve hoped for a more sandbox experience, the first hours aren’t like that. Especially when you travel deep into the Forbidden Forest and have nothing to defend yourself with, don’t let that discourage you; unlocking the broom in Hogwarts Legacy doesn’t take long.
Keep in mind that if you don’t like your initial House and want to start over, it’ll take even longer to unlock your first method of transportation. That is why we recommend choosing the House you like the most, experiencing the introduction, and seeing if it’s your fit. If it isn’t, start the game over until you find the right House for you but don’t progress too far with the story missions.
Hogwarts Legacy is finally out on PS4 and Xbox One and is also available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
