Mega Rayquaza, in all its Sky High Legendary glory, is the star of the Pokemon GO Fest, which will last until August 6, 2023. Hosted in three real-world locations, this massive in-person event features a unique reward known as Meteorites. A space rock from the cosmos, the Meteorite holds a singular yet substantial purpose — Mega-Evolving Rayquaza. It performs this by teaching the Pokemon Emerald Legendary a special Move called Charged Attack Dragon Ascent.
How Do You Get a Meteorite in Pokemon Go?
Meteorites are directly connected to the Pokemon GO Fest of August 2023, meaning you cannot obtain them outside of the event. Until the 6, you can participate in the event in the following cities:
- New York City, USA
- Osaka, Japan
- London, England
At the Pokemon GO Fest 2023 event in London, Osaka, and New York, anyone can participate in Mega Rayquaza Raids to defeat and capture the Sky High Legendary Pokemon. However, special benefits do apply to ticket-holding Trainers. Those with tickets can earn Mega Energy from these Raids as well as an event-exclusive Special Research story. Upon completion, this short questline will reward ticket holders with valuable goodies, including a Pokemon Go Meteorite.
Suppose you do not live near the three cities mentioned and cannot make the trip to them; worry not. On August 27, you can participate in Pokemon GO Fest 2023: Global, which features a Special Research story that grants everyone a Meteorite after completing certain research tasks. Those who purchase an event ticket can receive an additional Meteorite as well.

- Mega Glalie – Fast Move: Frost Breath | Charged Move: Avalanche
- Mega Abomasnow – Fast Move: Powder Snow | Charged Move: Weather Ball
- Mamoswine – Fast Move: Powder Snow | Charged Move: Avalanche
- Avalugg – Fast Move: Ice Fang | Charged Move: Avalanche

As you can see from the recommendations above, they are all Ice-type picks. Therefore, if you don’t have some or all of the above, any strong Ice-type Pokemon you have will still be effective!
Once it’s captured, give the Legendary a Meteorite to teach it the Charged Attack Dragon Ascent Move for the Mega Evolution. Afterward, feed it 400 Mega Energy (first time) to get Mega Rayquaza in Pokemon Go.
