There’s a lot that can happen to your characters in The Sims 4, including falling in love, becoming an immortal vampire, or even getting abducted by aliens. An alien abduction might seem bad, but for some players, it’s just what they’re looking for. Perhaps an interstellar odyssey is just the thing you need to wrap up your Sim’s sci-fi storyline. Maybe you’re just looking for a guilt-free way to get an annoying sibling out of your hair for the night in this social simulation. Either way, here’s everything you need to know about how alien abduction works in The Sims 4.

To get abducted by aliens in The Sims 4, you need the Get to Work expansion. Though aliens can randomly abduct your Sim even if you don’t do anything special to make it happen, the odds are low. The key is to advance the Scientist career far enough to access several unique items. Here are the steps you’ll need to take:

  • Unlock the Satellite Dish at Scientist 4 and then build it using the Invention Constructor
  • Alternatively, unlock the Out of This World Desktop at Scientist 10 and then purchase it for 15,150 Simoleons
  • Place your chosen device on the Sim’s property
  • Open the object’s interaction menu and select “Contact Aliens.”

Abductions can occur between 10 pm and 4 am. That said, you might need to use your new alien-calling gadget several times before your extraterrestrial friends decide to drop by. There’s a 24-hour cooldown on the “Contact Aliens” interaction. Once you’ve triggered it, you’ll need to wait until the next day before you can try again. When your Sim gets the “Investigate Weird Light” interaction, you’ll know the abduction process has begun. Learning how to get abducted might not be one of the most difficult challenges in The Sims 4, but it’s sure to shake up your characters’ lives.

The Sims 4 is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
