If you’re aiming to craft Padded Armor, Eitr-weave Set, or Blackmetal bladed weaponry, you’ll need a workstation known as the Spinning Wheel in Valheim. Much like the real-world weaving contraptions of previous centuries, the Spinning Wheel is primarily used for converting Flax into Linen Thread. This thread can then be combined with other materials at a Workbench or Forge to make a variety of weapons, armor, and the Lox Saddle. The resources used to assemble the Valheim Spinning Wheel are not hard to procure; however, you’ll need a particular workstation to build this Flax-weaving device.
How to make the Spinning Wheel in Valheim
The Spinning Wheel in Valheim is made with three materials: Fine Wood × 20, Iron Nails × 10, and Leather Scraps × 5. Fine Wood is chopped lumber from Birch and Oak trees that grow in the Meadows and Plains. Iron Nails are made at a Forge using a smelted ingot of Scrap Iron mined from the Muddy Scrap Piles in Sunken Crypts of the Swamp. Finally, Leather Scraps can be procured from Boars.

The Spinning Wheel in Valheim can only be placed when inside the crafting range of the Artisan Table. For those unfamiliar, this workstation is also required for constructing the Blast Furnace, Windmill, and Stone Oven. Assembling an Artisan Table needs Dragon Tears × 2 and Wood × 10. Wood is undoubtedly a plenteous, easy-to-find resource, but obtaining Dragon Tears can be challenging.
As its name suggests, the Dragon Tear is a crafting material dropped by Moder, the wyvern boss of the Mountains. To summon her, you must collect three Dragon Eggs and place them on her Forsaken Altar. These Eggs occasionally appear in the nests of Drakes, the hostile aerial mobs of the Mountains. Once slain, Moder will drop 10 Dragon Tears, two of which you can use to make the Artisan Table.
After setting up your Artisan Table and placing down a Spinning Wheel, you can start crafting Linen Thread in Valheim. One stalk of Flax converts into one spool of thread. The best way to get Flax is by creating a farm in the Plains. If you haven’t acquired any Flax to plant, you can typically find a patch growing near the Fuling Villages. Be wary, as the barbaric Village residents will not take kindly to the pillaging of their crops.
Valheim is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
