Inherited Skills are abilities in Fire Emblem Engage that enable players to strengthen their units using the power granted by characters in the series’ past titles, such as Marth or Celica. Emblem Rings are typically used for granting specific units with power from past heroes. However, since players only have a limited number of these rings, they will need to utilize the Skill Inheritance system to give those without a Ring these inheritable abilities. For instance, Celine could be equipped with Magic +3 from Celica, as long as her Bond Level is high enough and players have enough SP to spend.

To gain access to Inherited Skills for one’s units in Fire Emblem Engage, players must first clear Chapter 4: A Land in Bloom, after which the Ring Chamber in the Somniel hub area will be available. Inside this chamber, the Divine Dragon will find a Pedestal where they can examine all their units and each character’s inheritable abilities.

The requirement for a unit to inherit skills from a specific hero or heroine in Fire Emblem Engage is Bond Level 5. Suppose the character has yet to meet this condition. In that case, players can increase the unit’s Bond Level by having them fight in battle, participating in the Emblem Arena, or polishing rings in the Ring Chamber of the Somniel. Once the Bond Level requirement has been fulfilled, players can then view a list of Inherited Skills that vary, depending on the past warrior in Fire Emblem Engage.

Keep in mind that each Inherited Skill will cost SP, a currency earned primarily in battle when Bond and Emblem Rings have been equipped in Fire Emblem Engage. The more powerful or potent an ability is, the higher its SP cost will be. Accordingly, players must be sure to carefully consider which Inherited Skills will best enhance their units, as it is not possible to unlock and equip all of the abilities. Once players have chosen the Inherited Skill they want and spent the required SP, they can then equip the ability to their units by opening the Inventory screen and selecting “Manage Skills.” The small window will reveal the chosen character’s Inherited Skills, including their Personal, Sync, and Engage abilities.

Fire Emblem Engage is available on Nintendo Switch.
