Despite the fascinating plot and a lot of side content for every taste, crafting and building are perhaps the most essential mechanics in Starfield. Therefore, it is not surprising that you will have to search and extract dozens of minerals and materials throughout all space systems. One such material is Nickel, an essential ingredient in crafting helpful mods. If you want to get a Ballistic Shielding Mod for your Helmet, create a Weapon Workbench on your Outpost, or even place an Extractor, you can’t do without this material. So we are here to help you and tell you how to get and farm Nickel in Starfield.

Starfield: All Ways To Get Nickel

First of all, it is worth noting that you can get Nickel in Starfield in three ways:

  • Firstly, you can buy this material by visiting most vendors.
  • Secondly, you can mine this mineral using the Cutter on one of the many planets.
  • And finally, you can automate the Nickel mining process by creating a Mining Outpost.

If you are new, buying a Nickel is a great decision. As we said earlier, you can buy this mineral from almost any general goods merchant in large cities or at space stations. The average cost of this material is only 10 Credits, but the number of goods in the store is limited. If you have bought all your Nickel but need more, sit on the nearest chair and wait 24-48 hours. This time will be enough for the merchant to replenish the assortment, and you can buy more of the necessary material.

As for the location of traders, there are quite a lot of them. One of the first places you can visit is the Amoli Bava NPC in the Jemison Mercantile building in New Atlantis. You can find this place on the Jemison planet in the Alpha Centauri System. But here are a few more merchants where you can start your purchases:

  • Cydonia – Mars (Sol System)
  • UC Exchange – Mars (Sol System)
  • Trade Authority – All Big Cities

The second way to obtain Nickel is free and consists of mining this material on one of the many planets. You only need to go to any planet and scan it in space map mode. If you see the chemical symbol Ni on the left side of the screen, visually inspect the surface and find the area with the maximum amount of that color.

Having found a suitable planet, land and use the Cutter to get as much Nickel as you need. It is worth noting that there are over 300 planets and moons in the Starfield universe that have Nickel on them, so here is a short list of places to start:

  • Bondar planet – Alpha Centauri system
  • Voss moon – Olivas planet (Alpha Centauri system)
  • Lovell moon – Olivas planet (Alpha Centauri system)
  • Venus planet – Sol System
  • Procyon II planet – Procyon A System

If you donโ€™t want to spend either money or time, you should create an outpost specializing in Nickel mining. If you have spent at least a few hours in the game, this mechanic won’t be a problem. But if you need more specifics, here’s how you can farm Nickel in Starfield:

  • To begin, select a planet that has an abundance of this mineral. You can use the list above.
  • Next, scan the planet and find the area with the maximum concentration of Nickel.
  • Next, use the Helmet Scanner to confirm the presence of Nickel under the surface layer.
  • Create a new outpost by installing an Extractor, 5-6 Solar Array or Wind Turbines and several Storages.
  • Add multiple buildings and modules as desired and enjoy an uninterrupted supply of Nickel.
