When it comes to populating a once-barren planet with living things, you can’t go wrong with good old-fashioned dung– or if you’re more sophisticated and chemically manipulative, Fertilizer. The Planet Crafter understands this dynamic well enough and will soon task you with using Fertilizer to build a Biodome or Food Growers. Heck, even the Rockets need Fertilizer in this game. So here’s how to get a Fertilizer in The Planet Crafter.
Obtaining the Fertilizer Through a Blueprint
The longer and more sustainable way to get Fertilizer in The Planet Crafter is to progress your Terraformation Index.
There are pre-requisites for this, so here’s a more specific step-by-step process for unlocking the Fertilizer:
- Get to Terraformation Index Stage 5 – Liquid Water. That means 3 MTi.
- This will unlock the Biomass Ti category.
- Raise your Biomass index to 835g to unlock the Biolab.
- Craft the Fertilizer in the Biolab; it requires the following:
- 3x Algae
- 2x Eggplant
- 1x Sulfur
You’re going to need a thriving food grower operation for this, but once you have tons of Fertilizer, it’s going to be easier to grow your food. So the Eggplant sacrifice is worth it.
Still, getting to Stage 5 in the Terraformation Index is quite the undertaking and there might be instances when you need Fertilizer before you can unlock the Biolab. There’s a shorter process here, but it requires a bit of luck and exploration.
Obtaining the Fertilizer through Crates
To get Fertilizer long before you unlock Liquid Water in The Planet Crafter, all you have to do is venture into shipwrecks and bunkers or ruins. Fertilizer is usually bundled in blue storage boxes or crates.
However, they also have a requirement before they start appearing in crates. You need to reach the following milestones in order to be able to loot Fertilizer:
- Reach Terraformation Index Stage 5 – Liquid Water.
It’s still quite a process, but at least you don’t have to build up your Biomass to 835g. If you find enough Fertilizer this way, you can even skip the Food Grower farm. But this is a finite solution and you’ll eventually need to craft your own Fertilizer, which brings you back to the process above.
Most blueprints that need the Fertilizer requires around 1-2 bags of them, and I imagine you’re going to need hundreds to significantly raise Biomass.
