Do you want to know how to get Mourning Frost in Baldur’s Gate 3? Thought of as one of the best weapons in Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3, this quarter-staff is quite rare. However, it provides a nice buff if you are looking to build a cold-damage spellcaster or improve Gale. Unfortunately, obtaining Mourning Frost in Baldur’s Gate 3 is quite a task. It requires some heavy exploration and a few tough battles along the way. You can’t buy it from any vendors scattered across the vast world, or find it as loot. You need to craft it.

Baldur’s Gate 3: How To Craft Mourning Frost

To craft Mourning Frost in Baldur’s Gate 3 you need the following three items:

  • Icy Metal
  • Icy Crystal
  • Icy Helve

Once you have all these three items, it will be easy to craft Mourning Frost. All you need to do is put all three parts into the inventory of one character and then click on any of the three items and press Combine. This will open the Crafting Menu now put all three items into the slots and click Combine again. Congratulations, you have the most powerful stuff in Act 1. For every cold damage dealt, you will instill Chilled status on your opponent, which halves its movement speed.

How To Get Icy Metal

To obtain the Icy Metal component required for crafting Mourning Frost in Baldur’s Gate 3, you must first establish trust with the Myconid Circle during Act 1’s Underdark section. Achieve this by completing the quest titled Protect the Myconid Circle.

To initiate the quest, head to the Far North-Center area where you’ll encounter sentient mushrooms known as Myconids. Befriending them will lead to a telepathic message from their collective consciousness, urging you to meet ‘The Sovereign.’

The Sovereign will assign you the task of protecting the Myconid Circle. This quest involves locating a group of Dark Dwarves and eliminating them.

The Icy Metal fragment is found within the Myconid Colony’s treasure room. After earning the full trust of the Myconid Circle and completing the quest, The Sovereign will grant you access to their treasury. Inside, you’ll discover the Icy Metal fragment alongside a Drow Corpse, encircled by Glowing Crystals. Remember to avoid siding with the Dwergar or harming the Myconid Circle to ensure this opportunity.

How To Get Icy Crystal

To obtain the Icy Crystal needed for crafting Mourning Frost in Baldur’s Gate 3, venture to the Underdark and access the Myconid Circle. Take the left exit to reach the Northwestern section of the map, specifically the Sursurr Three Roots area. There, confront Filro, The Forgotten—a level 5 Loth-Sworn Drow— accompanied by dangerous Hook Horrors. Engage cautiously, as environmental hazards can lead to lost loot, including the Icy Crystal. Filro carries the crystal and crucial information, accessible via the Amulet of Lost Voices or Scroll of Speaking with the Dead.

How To Get Icy Helve

To acquire the Icy Helve for crafting Mourning Frost in Baldur’s Gate 3 you will need to get to the the Garden of Statues. Heading southwest from Selunite Fortress (A1), beware of deadly pitfalls.

Once you get to the Garden of Statues, you will need to fight The Spectator. This formidable enemy spawns and controls Drows in the vicinity. The Icy Helve is held by Dhourn, one of the Drows. You will then get an option to choose between the two: negotiate with Dhourn or defeat him.

If Dhourn’s cooperative, he’ll relinquish the Icy Helve. If not, engage in combat. Keeping Dhourn away from the chasm edge is key. Once the battle concludes, loot your reward. With this piece, you’ve successfully collected all components required for crafting the legendary Mourning Frost staff.
