Want to know how to get Rolycoly Coal in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet? Thanks to the TM crafting mechanic, you can create over 170 unique TMs and train your Pokémon with new moves. If you’re looking for good TMs for your Rock-type Pokémon, you might choose Stealth Rock or Stone Edge TMs, in which case, you’ll need Rolycoly Coal. As the name suggests, you can get Rolycoly Coal from the Pokémon family of the same name, but to find and defeat them, you will have to make a lot of effort. But our guide is here to help you and tell you how to get Rolycoly Coal in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

How to Get Rolycoly Coal in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

To get Rolycoly Coal in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you must defeat or capture Rolycoly, Carkol, or Coalossal in their habitats. Fortunately, little Rolycoly and its older relatives, Carkol, live in only one place – East Province (Area Three). At the same time, the habitat of Rolycoly is concentrated only in the central part of this area, while Carkol roams throughout the location. As for Coalossal, it doesn’t spawn in the wild. So if you want to fight him, you have to go to raids.

Of course, you shouldn’t challenge Coalossal to get Rolycoly Coal. So if you decide to farm this material, you should focus on Rolycoly and Carkol. Since Rolycoly is a Rock-type Pokémon, it is weak against Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground, and Steel-type moves and takes 2x damage from these. On the other hand, you should avoid using Normal, Fire, Poison, and Flying-type attacks as these are only half effective.

But after Rolycoly evolves into Carkol, he gets an additional Fire-type, and the battle strategy changes a bit. Rolycoly is also weak against Fighting and Rock-type moves and takes double damage from these. But Pokémon with Water and Ground-type moves are more effective because now they will deal 4x damage to this Pokémon. At the same time, Fire-type attacks are almost useless since these are only a quarter effective.

TM116 (Stealth Rock):

  • Rockruff Rock x3
  • Rolycoly Coal x3

TM150 (Stone Edge):

  • Rockruff Rock x3
  • Rolycoly Coal x5
  • Klawf Claw x3
