There’s no better Minion companion for your Tonberry Glamour during the Hatching-Tide Event 2023 in FFXIV than the adorable yet terrifying Wind-up Tonberry. This little knife-wielding creature has been around since Final Fantasy V and appeared throughout many subsequent games in the franchise. While their physical appearance might look innocuous, a jab from its small kitchen blade can be deadly or even fatal in some instances. Of course, like any other Minion in FFXIV, the Wind-up Tonberry cannot insta-kill or even threaten your foes. However, it can be the perfect companion for your adventures or cosplay endeavors.
Unlocking the Wind-up Tonberry Minion in FFXIV
Among the multiple ways to unlock the Wind-up Tonberry Minion in FFXIV, the easiest yet most costly way is by purchasing the cosmetic creature from another player via the Market Board. Depending on the server, prices can range from 525,000 to even a million Gil. The Hatching-Tide Event 2023 definitely will have an influence on the price.

According to the FFXIV Wiki, another way to get the Wind-up Tonberry Minion in FFXIV is by opening a Materiel Container 3.0, a purchasable item from Quartermasters. Costing 20,000 Seals each, the Materiel Container 3.0 can be consumed to receive “a random mount or minion introduced in A Realm Reborn or Heavensward.” In other words, the chances that you will get the Wind-up Tonberry are entirely random, but you can still try your luck at opening these loot boxes. Another randomized source is the Bronze-trimmed Sack, an item earned from finding Accursed Hoards in the Palace of the Dead. Once you obtain one of these sacks, take them to the Expedition Bishop at Quarrymill, South Shroud, to see if you’re lucky enough to get the Minion.
Finally, the fourth method of unlocking the Wind-up Tonberry Minion in FFXIV is by deciphering Timeworn Boarskin Maps into Boarskin Treasure Maps. The loot earned from these maps can potentially contain a Wind-up Tonberry. Like the Bronze-trimmed Sack or Materiel Container 3.0, the Minion will need to compete with drop rates of every other possible item in these loot boxes.
Final Fantasy XIV is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
