At first, exploring Embervale in Enshrouded is quite easy, as you’ll only need to walk from one location to another to obtain materials, fight a few enemies, and maybe build your base. However, as the game progresses, you’ll notice that some areas are out of reach. To help you get to them, the game lets you craft a few useful tools, such as the Grappling Hook, and we’ve made a guide to show you how to obtain it quickly in Enshrouded 1.0.

How to Craft the Grappling Hook in Enshrouded
The great thing about this particular tool is that it is unlocked right from the start, meaning you don’t need to find a survivor or complete a quest for it. Yet, getting it requires you to put in some elbow grease.
First, let’s go over the materials for the Grappling Hook in Enshrouded, which, thankfully, aren’t many and aren’t too hard to get.
- Metal Scraps x4
- String x7
- Shroud Spores x10
As for where to get everything, let’s start from the top.
Where to Get Metal Scraps
The best place to get Metal Scraps early in the game (assuming you already used all the ones you get in the new tutorial cave) is Longkeep, the abandoned village next to the first recommended base location. All you need to do is approach the area and break as many containers and furniture as you see. While not guaranteed, a lot of these items can drop Metal Scraps, and you’ll only need four for the Grappling Hook.
Where to Get Plant Fiber
Ironically, Plant Fiber is often harder to get than Metal Scraps in Enshrouded, and sadly, you’ll need some for your Grappling Hook. Since you’ll need seven pieces of string, that means you need to gather 21 Plant Fiber, and the easiest way to do so is by walking around the starting area and harvesting bushes. Cutting down trees also gives you a chance to drop Plant Fiber, but we’ve found bushes are the best place to gather this material.
Where to Get Shroud Spores
And for the last item, you’ll have to delve into some Shrouded areas, and luckily, one is just next to where the first recommended base location is. You just need to defeat an enemy and loot their remains, which most of the time guarantees one Shroud Spore. Ideally, you only need to defeat 10 enemies to get all the materials. If you are not encountering any foes, travel to the Shroud below the broken bridge in the starting area or wait until it’s night for them to spawn near your base.
Once you have all the materials, all you have to do is head to the Workbench and craft your Grappling Hook, which will let you reach new areas all across the map.
