Healing in Cult of the Lamb works differently than in many other games, which confuses many newcomers to the game. This is because there is no game mechanic that allows you to increase your health by eating food or using potions. In Cult of the Lamp, you need to know how to heal in order to stand against the bosses Baal, Aym, and The One Who Waits who want you dead, otherwise you won’t be able to grow your cult and your followers won’t have any faith in you.

There are 3 different types of Heart and each one is different to obtain. Black and Blue are temporary, while Red Heart is your base health. To know how to heal in Cult of the Lamb, you need a good understanding of Heart types.

Types of Hearts in Cult of the Lamb:

  • Red Heart
  • Blue / Green Heart
  • Black / Diseased Heart

Red Hearts are your standard health in the game. Blue Hearts are temporary and are added on top of your main Red Heart count.

There are a couple of different ways for you to get Blue Hearts in Cult of the Lamb. Firstly, you can use the Fleece of Fragile Fortitude item, and secondly, you can unlock The Hunger Crown Upgrade to get Blue Hearts from the food you eat every day. Finally, you will receive 1 Blue Heart after each Sermon. If you lose a Blue Heart during battle, you cannot replenish it.

Black, or Diseased Hearts, allow you to damage all creatures that appear on your screen when you take damage. You can get a Diseased Heart with the Fleece of the Diseased Heart item or the Darkness Within Crown Upgrade.

As we just mentioned, there are three different types of hearts, and the way you get each one is different. For example, you can get Red Hearts from Chests in your Crusades, or you can get them from Tarot Cards.

Apart from that, if you go to the Heart icon on the Crusade Map, you can heal yourself completely in Cult of the Lamb. Finally, when you return to your Cult after completing your Crusade, your Red Hearts will be fully restored. Another way to get Red Hearts is to use a weapon like the Vampiric Dagger.
