While exploring Hogwarts’s Clock Tower Courtyard area in this sprawling Harry Potter RPG, you might have noticed a locked door on the first floor. Emblemed with the horse-headed knight chess piece, the gate covering this door is firmly shut from outsiders. If you have learned Alohomora, you can also gain access to three more similarly locked doors with symbols on the tower’s upper floors. These Clock Tower doors in Hogwarts Legacy require you to “freeze time” in a sense to have them opened.

The solution to unlocking the Clock Tower’s emblemed doors in Hogwarts Legacy is the spell Glacius. You learn this freezing incantation after completing the first assignment of Madam Kogawa, Hogwarts’ flying instructor. With Glacius equipped in your spell hotbar, you must cast it on the swinging pendulum of the Clock Tower.

Standing in the Clock Tower Courtyard’s main chamber, stare up at the pendulum above. You’ll notice four symbols that are identical to the ones on the gates blocking the Clock Tower doors in Hogwarts Legacy. Timing your spell cast carefully, use Glacius on the pendulum as soon as the neck of the instrument swings directly over the target symbol. For instance, if you execute Glacius when the pendulum is on the knight chess piece plate, the locked door on the tower’s first floor will open.

Fortunately, the stairways leading up the Hospital Wing in the Clock Tower have plenty of open spaces where you can aim your freezing spell at the pendulum. In other words, there’s no need to freeze the device from the first floor and then rush to any of the three remaining doors on the upper levels.

To briefly recap, here’s how you unlock the Clock Tower Doors in Hogwarts Legacy:

  1. 1. Equip the Glacius spell

Complete the quest “Madam Kogawa’s Assignment 1” to get this spell.

  2. 2. Find the door in the Clock Tower you want to open.

  3. 3. Cast Glacius on the pendulum when it swings over the symbol of the door you wish to open
