This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

No matter how you look at it, Payday 3 is always going to be better with friends. However, there are going to be times when your friends aren’t available, or you would just rather play by yourself. When that time comes, you can always refer back to this guide to look up how to play solo in Payday 3.

While there isn’t a direct button to play solo, that doesn’t mean that you absolutely can’t. You can bypass the multiplayer feature by choosing the heist that you’d like to complete and setting the Lobby Type to either Friends Only or Invite Only. The Friends Only option is more if you know that none of your friends are actively online to join you. Otherwise, just select the Invite Only option to avoid anyone joining you game.

Once you know you’re the only player, you can select the Matchmaking option and be taken into a match within a few seconds. In the loadout menu, you will be able to double check that you are the only person in the match. Once that’s been settled, hit the Ready option and being the heist with AI teammates.

What Makes A Solo Match Different?

A solo run is different from a match with friends or strangers because, well, you’re on your own. You do have AI teammates that will help, but only if you find yourself in some trouble. If you blow your cover, trip an alarm, or even get cuffed by an officer, then your teammates will come to the rescue.

While doing everything yourself might seem like a great approach to some heists, that isn’t always the case. Where having live players means that each of the decisions that that character makes is deliberate, an AI teammate can just get in the way sometimes. At best, an AI teammate will do something that you feel a real player wouldn’t have done just because they are physically present in what is happening.

These teammates will also follow you everywhere once they been triggered, so get ready for heists that aren’t as laid out as you probably would have liked. Regardless, playing solo is completely possible in Payday 3.
