Using the Flamer on Poxwalkers in Warhammer 40K Darktide

Out of the many ways one can decimate their foes in Warhammer 40K: Darktide, one of the most engaging ways to purge the Heretics is with the Flamer, a flamethrower-style firearm. This weapon is currently used exclusively by the Zealot Preacher, the class with a strong focus on close-range and melee combat. The main utility of the Flamer is to take down massive hordes of Poxwalkers within a few seconds, as the flame projectiles will melt away the HP of mobs. The effect will not be instant, but the DoT will complete its work after several moments, sizzling any enemy within the Flamer’s range to a fine crisp.

To unlock the Flamer in Warhammer 40K: Darktide, Rejects must play as the Zealot Preacher and progress the class to Level 12, after which the Armoury Exchange will begin offering the flamethrower in its stock. Like any other class, there is no special method of leveling one’s chosen class other than joining and completing missions.

According to Prima Games, the main appeal of the Flamer is its ability to swiftly take down massive groups of horde-type mobs in Warhammer 40K: Darktide. It can still be an effective weapon against Elites or Specialists as a source of accessible DoT. However, the Zealot Preacher’s melee options offer much more utility for dealing with stronger targets and boss encounters. For instance, a good strategy would be to use the Flamer on horde enemies, but when a more formidable target emerges, fire the Flamer once before switching to a melee weapon. This grants players a chance to smash down a single target while taking advantage of the DoT from the Flamer’s burn.

Using the Flamer in Darktide is straightforward, with no extra mechanics. The weapon’s trigger can be fired once for a quick burst of fire or consistently held down to emit a horizontal pillar of flames at targets. However, keeping watch on one’s ammo reserves is always important, as it is not optimal to get caught by a horde rush when out of ammunition. In other words, the Flamer is best used when the main path becomes impassible with hundreds of enemies, not during simple skirmishes.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide will be available on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
