You may already know about the whole cast of characters coming to Elden Ring Nightreign, but you won’t start with all of them. As usual, you need to complete a few things and even obtain some secret items to complete your roster. The first secret Nightfarer you’ll unlock in Elden Ring Nightreign is Duchess, and, in truth, the process isn’t too difficult, assuming you’re okay with grinding expeditions over and over, but well, that’s the whole point of the game. In any case, here’s how to get one of the best DPS characters for your team.

How To Get the Pocketwatch in Elden Ring Nightreign

Before you even attempt to unlock the Duchess in Elden Ring Nightreign, you’ll need to get one specific item that seems to be a random drop from an expedition, an old Pocketwatch. Some people reported that this item dropped after beating the first boss, but in our case, it dropped after doing the first expedition repeatedly. Right now, it seems to be a random drop, so just keep joining the Tricephalos expedition until you obtain it. Like other rewards, such as Relics, you’ll see the Pocketwatch at the end of the expedition screen.

Once you have it, you’ll notice that it works as a Relic. You can equip it on any character with that colored slot and bring it to your expeditions. However, this is what you’ll need to get the Duchess. To do so, follow these steps:

Priestess and Wylder

After obtaining the Pocket Watch, find the Priestess inside the Roundtable Hold and talk to her. You’ll get the option to “Show her the old pocketwatch.” After doing so, the Priestess will talk for a bit, saying she misplaced it, and will ask you to return it to her.

You’ll see two options, one to give it to her and one to keep it. If you do the latter, you’ll just use it as a normal relic. However, once you give it to the Priestess, the Duchess will become playable, and the Old Pocketwatch will remain a Relic you can use for any of your characters.

Lastly, after watching the amazing cutscene, you’ll get a screen confirming the Duchess has joined your team. Once that’s done, you can select her in the expedition menu or even select her inside the hub to take her to the training grounds. Either way, she’s part of the Nightfaring family and ready to take down a few Nightlords.
