The long-awaited prequel to Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild launches today! Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamityย has arrived to tell us the tale that was 100 years before Ganon conquered Hyrule.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity - Launch Trailer - Nintendo Switch

Hyrule Warriors is launching its second game in the franchise. Warriors games have taken the Legend of Zelda franchise and begun turning out Warriors-style games with their lore and characters. Age of Calamity is the latest in the series covering the story of what happened to Hyrule’s heroes before Ganon reared his ugly head.

Before you lose your marbles saying, “What the heck, we already know the story that was half of Breath of the Wild’s plot” you need to remember that all of the memories Link went back to retrieve were simply fragments. This game promises to cover the whole scenario in much greater detail and through the perspective of all the heroes.

Nintendo says, “See Hyrule 100 years before the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game and experience the events of the Great Calamity. You will get to join the struggle that brought Hyrule to its knees. You’ll learn about Zelda, the four Champions, the King of Hyrule, and more through dramatic cutscenes as they try to save the kingdom from Calamity. The Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity game is the only way to see firsthand what happened 100 years ago.”

Prepare yourself to cut through hordes of Bokoblins, Lynels, and all of Ganon’s evil forces. In typical Warriors fashion, you will be able to take control of more than just Link; you will have the ability to play as Zelda, the four Champions, and young Impa. Each character will play completely different from one another with their own basic and special attacks, “Use their distinct abilities to carve through hundreds of enemies to save Hyrule from the impending Calamity.”

There is also a bonus for players with a Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game save data on your Nintendo Switch. If you do have a save file you can get the in-game Training Sword bonus item. Equip this weapon and youโ€™ll automatically hold a Pot Lid as a shield.

Will you be securing your own copy of Age of Calamity? Which character are you most excited to play as? Comment below!
