There have been several questionable laws around the country, yet there have also been some that have targeted specific communities to the point that several people consider these laws illegal and aggressive. Such is the case of House Bill 752 in Idaho, which makes it a crime to use a bathroom that doesn’t align with an individual’s sex assigned at birth, and since many believe this is unconstitutional, the transgender community has sued the government, hoping to block this new law that is set to take effect in the following months.
The Advocate shared a report on the Idaho subreddit claiming that members from the transgender community in the state have filed a lawsuit to block House Bill 752, and for context, this law basically makes it a crime to use a public bathroom if it doesn’t align with someone’s sex assigned at birth. The shocking thing about this law is that it will punish people with one year of jail, up to five years in prison. Naturally, several people found this offensive and decided to sue with the hopes of blocking the law before it takes effect on July 1, 2026.
According to the above report, the ones who filed the lawsuit have never had a problem with using a public restroom that aligns with their identified gender. Yet, they are now avoiding going to public bathrooms, as this law could brand them as criminals and punish them with jail time.
Idaho Residents Furious Over House Bill 752
When the report landed on Reddit, several Idaho Redditors were furious after reading what the bill is planning to do and shared their thoughts on the matter.
“As one who has trans friends and family members, this is so reprehensible. They truly want anyone different in any way to suffer.“
Other Redditors believe that the government is wasting its time and taxpayer money on these bills, which, according to them, are unnecessary and violent toward the LGBTQ+ community.
“Our government isn’t operating for the people.”
“This whole thing is such a waste of taxpayer money. Our government will do anything to distract and rile up their base so they don’t have to do any actual work to better the lives of those they’re supposed to be serving.“
Right now, many in Idaho hope that this will block this questionable law, but we’ll have to wait a bit more to see what happens with the recently filed lawsuit.
