An Amazon driver in Washington has received a bit of praise online after following the customer’s requests, to the letter. They followed the directions of “packages must go into the delivery box” so accurately that some called it “malicious compliance.” On r/AmazonDSPDrivers, Reddit user jiwonkwxn proudly shared their work of a long folding screen placed into a package bin that clearly wasn’t the right size.
In the photo, two other packages can be seen to the right of the delivery bin. Based on their size, it’d make sense they’d be placed in the box, but jiwonkwxn thought it funny to put the sizeable furniture item into it instead. As its name suggests, the post’s subreddit is where many Amazon drivers gather online, and plenty of them were pleased to see OP ‘following the customer’s wishes.’
Many Commenters and Other Drivers Found the Prank Hilarious
“Can’t say you didn’t follow directions,” laughed a commenter. “How I love malicious compliance. Laughed out loud at this one,” wrote a second. “Exactly what I’d do,” chimed in a third. Dozens of others shared the same sentiment.
OP didn’t share any context on whether this customer had given them any trouble or whether the package bin was the place where all furniture was to be placed. Though many who’ve worked in delivery for Amazon or other mail couriers might know all too well about being under scrutiny by customers and others online for following delivery directions.
For instance, a tense interaction between a Florida driver “following policy” and an angry customer over their wet package went viral on TikTok. In jiwonkwxn’s post, several commenters even admitted to malicious compliance to cause inconvenience to their recipients, so it’s not uncommon for some drivers to feel a bit of resentment toward customers.
A few alleged and angry “customers” were also in the comment section, calling out Amazon drivers who played a prank with packages. Despite being such widely used services, Amazon and other postal couriers have no shortage of drama between workers and customers.
