Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set in the 90s, a timeframe in which most of our beloved Black Ops heroes are not around. That’s because Black Ops 2‘s flashback scenes bear a heavy toll on showing the fates of Jason Hudson, Frank Woods, and Alex Mason. However, this game has many endings, and in one of them, Reznov’s brainwashed friend is dead, while in another one, it turns out he’s been hiding for 30 years! So, is Alex Mason really dead in Black Ops 6? That’s the question that’s been answered by Treyarch.
Many of the prominent Call of Duty content creators, like the Inkslasher, have been invited to play an early version of Black Ops 6. They’ve tested the Multiplayer and probably some other features of the game. But what’s important here is that they’ve been told by the developers that Alex Mason is dead in the Black Ops canon.
That’s some big news over there because the Mason family and their influence is integrated into the Call of Duty: Black Ops storylines. Black Ops 1 has the main character, Alex Mason. Black Ops 2 drives the story by Alex and his son, David Mason. Part of the Black Ops Cold War story is about what Mason and Woods were up to before the events of BO2. And Black Ops 4 has a secret narrative where Mason’s granddaughter, Savannah Mason, plans the whole plot of the Blackout.
So, in one of the many endings of Black Ops 2, Alex Mason dies, and he’s not coming back in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. This is what the developers have told the content creators.
What Happened To Alex Mason in The Black Ops Canon? Explained
In a mission that takes place in Panama, Alex Mason, Frank Woods, and Jason Hudson are on a hunt for a secret target. A traitor within the CIA, a mole, tells Jason Hudson and his team that this target is in fact, Raul Menendez.
This is where Frank Woods is given orders to shoot the target from far away with a sniper rifle, and he does his best to finish the job. It turns out that the target is none other than Alex Mason, Frank’s best friend in the field. That’s why Alex Mason isn’t returning in Black Ops 6, as Frank wasn’t “a lousy shot.”
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set to release on October 25, 2024.
