Valve’s Steam Deck has provided players with a handheld console to play several great PC games. This has become quite a hit in the gaming industry, and day by day, players wonder if their favorite games are verified on this console. One of the most famous MMOs is Final Fantasy 14, and gamers worldwide wonder if the game is on Steam Deck. Given how other AAA titles like Cyberpunk 2077 or Elden Ring, it is normal to ask if this multiplayer title can run on Valve’s platform. For those wondering, yes, it is more than capable.

First and foremost, yes, Final Fantasy 14 is playable on Steam Deck. It is under the Playable category, meaning you might have to tweak the game a bit before playing it, but other than that, it should be a smooth ride. The game’s performance is relatively steady, and one of the most challenging parts of the title might be the controls for those jumping from PC to Steam Deck. As you know, FFXIV is mainly a PC game, but given how it’s on PS4 and PS5, the controls change significantly; the same happens with Steam Deck.

Best Settings for FFXIV on Steam Deck

If you want to run Final Fantasy 14 on Steam Deck, we recommend the following settings:

  • Set Graphics Quality to Standard-Low or Laptop-High.
  • Set Model Count to Low
  • Set Resolution to 1280×720 at 30FPS

While the game isn’t as graphically demanding as other titles, the biggest bottleneck happens in crowded areas. Places like Limsa Lominsa and certain Alliance Raids might give you some lag, so we recommend the abovementioned settings. Yet, you can play with the configuration as you see fit, but we recommend you follow the ones we listed to make your experience smoother.

It is nice to see Final Fantasy 14 on Steam Deck, as it is a fantastic MMO to play casually or hardcore, depending on the type of player you are. If you haven’t tried it, the game has an excellent free trial to let you play until level 60 and enjoy the base game and its first expansion.

There’s no time restriction, but after that, you need to buy the following expansions and get a monthly subscription. However, it is worth it as it is one of the best Final Fantasy games in the series, and we’re sure the team behind this game has more surprises planned for us in the future.
