Square Enix has just released Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis early this September. Sporting traditional turn-based mechanics unlike the Remake series, lots of series veterans prefer to relive their adventure with Cloud through this new entry. But players are wondering whether Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis is playable on either PC or consoles. And what is this game all about, anyway?
Is Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis Released on PC or Console?
Update: Per December 7, Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis is now also officially available on PC via Steam.
Unfortunately, Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis is a mobile-exclusive game, released only for Android and iOS devices. Nevertheless, PC users can get in on the action using Android emulators such as Bluestacks, Noxplayer, or Google’s official Google Play Games.
Speaking of a PC release, there is always a possibility that Square Enix might launch Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis on Steam. Several high-profile mobile games, including Lords Mobile, Megaman X DiVE, and Summoners War: Chronicles have their native PC version released on Valve’s platform. Still, I wouldn’t hold my breath, and neither should you.
What is Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis About?
Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis is a free-to-play mobile game complete with gacha mechanics made by Applibot. A subsidiary of CyberAgent, the developer is mostly known for another joint project with Square Enix, NieR:Re[in]carnation. Along with the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series for PC and console, it remakes and/or adapts the events of the FF7 franchise. The game currently covers the stories of these titles at the time of writing:
- Final Fantasy VII, both original and Remake version
- The First Soldier, the short-lived mobile battle royale spin-off
- Crisis Core, the Zack-focused spin-off
The game is launched with a Chapter-based system. Like many online and mobile games, it will be updated with new Chapters monthly post-launch. Ever Crisis is also exploring more of Sephiroth’s background, detailing his rise and fall as a SOLDIER.
In terms of gameplay, Ever Crisis is geared toward classic turn-based command RPG. In contrast to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake which was made with real-time combat in mind. All playable party members are obtained by playing the game’s Story Mode. Through the gacha or loot box system, players can get new weapons and Gear aka outfits for the characters. Co-Op Mode allows three players to tackle tough missions together.
While exploring the story, characters will be represented with blocky super-deformed models unlike in the original PS1 game. Once players get into combat, the graphical fidelity changes substantially, adopting realistic models just like the Remake version.
