Whether you’re a veteran of the series or someone preparing for the next mainline entry of the franchise, gamers worldwide just want to know one thing: is Monster Hunter World cross-platform? With the title being out for years, many would think people moved on to Rise or other games, but the truth is this game remains one of the best ever made for the Monster Hunter franchise. So, while we wait for Wilds, there are many hunts to take as part of the Fifth Fleet.

Sadly, no. Monster Hunter World does not support any cross-platform features, and by the looks of it, it won’t get any support. This title launched almost six years ago, and while it has received countless updates, collaborations, and some crossovers, cross-platform never arrived. The only way you can play with your friends is by owning the game on the same platform. However, those with next-gen consoles can play with friends on the same family of consoles. For example, a PS5 player can play with a friend on PS4, and the same applies to the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
Given how Rise got its last update in 2023, and Wilds was announced during The Game Awards 2023, we don’t think Capcom will return to support World. While it’s sad not being able to play with friends regardless of the platform, it isn’t something new. Most of the time, console crossplay tends to be a hassle for many developers, and they opt to leave it out. However, Capcom has already revealed that crossplay is coming to Monster Hunter Wilds, so that’s one thing to look forward to.
While the road to Monster Hunter Wilds is a long one, there’s plenty to do in World and Rise, with the latter having some of the best endgame content to date. So, grab your extremely big weapon, talk to your handler, and set off to take down some of the biggest monsters in the New World and beyond.
