This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

Final Fantasy stories have always been somewhat confusing, but Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has taken it to another level. With the inclusion of multiple worlds into the new plot, many truths players initially believed are now up for question. The most pressing matter is whether Zack is alive or dead in FF7 Rebirth. The answer is it’s kind of complicated since you won’t understand anything if you don’t pay close attention to the story.

Is Zack Alive or Dead in FF7 Rebirth?

Zack is alive in FF7 Rebirth… sort of. Again, it’s a bit confusing, and I must warn you that we will enter spoiler territory. If you haven’t played the game or don’t want to get spoiled, you should leave immediately.

If you’re still reading, then I assume you are ready to get some explanation. Okay, there are several worlds featured in FF7 Rebirth. For the most part, we stay in World A, where Cloud and his team are chasing after Sephiroth. On the other hand, sometimes we will get glimpses of another world, let’s call it World B.

Zack in World A is dead because that’s what is supposed to happen. However, the Whispers mess with the event, creating an alternate Final Fantasy 7 timeline, a.k.a. World B, where Zack is alive and brings Cloud to Midgar.

This shouldn’t have mattered initially because each world is supposed to exist independently and does not interact with each other. However, Sephiroth likes to mess with the planet, and his grand plan is to combine all the timelines to trigger the biggest Reunion.

That’s why we could sometimes control Zack and why Cloud could get glimpses of another world. The timelines are starting to merge. In the final battle, the two friends will even fight together against Sephiroth.

The plot is very wacky and convoluted. We don’t know if this will stick or if Zack will be dead again in the final ending, but at least I can assure you that Zack is still alive and kicking in FF7 Rebirth.
