The new DCU reboot is starting to develop. Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, and Nathan Fillion are joining the cast of Superman: Legacy. Merced is best known for her acclaimed performance in Sicario: Day of the Soldado and the titular role in Dora and the Lost City of Gold. Gathegi portrayed Laurent in the Twilight series and Darwin in X-Men: First Class. And Nathan Fillion is known for his leading roles in the TV shows Firefly and Castle. These three actors are joining David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan (Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane) for Superman: Legacy, the first film in director James Gunn’s reboot of the DCU.
Who Will These Cast Members Play in Superman: Legacy?
The new Superman: Legacy cast members will take on notable DC hero roles. Merced will portray Hawkgirl, who was expected to appear in the original DCEU given Hawkman’s appearance in Black Adam. The film’s box office failure has extinguished that possibility, but James Gunn is bringing the character to life in this reboot. Gathegi is playing Michael Holt, who, in the comic lore, is the second character to become Mr. Teriffic. And Fillion will portray Guy Gardner, known for being one of the more awkward, obnoxious, and comedic Green Lanterns.
Interestingly, Superman: Legacy won’t be the first time Nathan Fillion and James Gunn work together. Fillion played the lead in Gunn’s directorial debut Slither (2006). He also had roles in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and 3, and he played Cory Pitzner / The Detachable Kid (T.D.K.) in The Suicide Squad. Additionally, he has voiced the Hal Jordan version of Green Lantern in numerous DC animated films.
With the cast growing, the filming of Superman: Legacy should be getting off the ground shortly. And not a moment too soon, as the film is intended to release in 2024.
