What looks like a cursed still image from a horror movie is actually a Canadian man sleeping atop water jugs to survive a bedbug infestation. According to his girlfriend, Reddit user QuarantineChronicles, the man was visiting his cousin in Texas when he discovered the house had a bedbug problem, a really bad bedbug problem. It was so bad, in fact, that he slept on a bizarre makeshift bed on top of five water jugs for allegedly two months.
“He was terrified of putting his mattress on the ground so he opted for this DIY,” QuarantineChronicles explained, adding that he claimed to have been “comfortable.” The boyfriend even stuck tape around the tips of the bottles as traps for bedbugs that might try to crawl up on his platform. Because bedbugs can crawl on walls, QuarantineChronicles says he kept the “bed” slightly away from the wall instead of in the middle of the room, since that “wouldn’t be pleasant to the eyes.”
“As if this wasn’t terrifying enough already,” QuarantineChronicles remarked, pointing out how uncanny the image of her sleeping boyfriend was. For context, he was on a mattress sitting on a piece of plywood, balanced on the water jugs. OP says she initially thought the whole situation was ridiculously hilarious, but the comments informed her that her boyfriend wasn’t overreacting.
Reddit Clarified to OP That Her Boyfriend Was Not Overreacting to the BedBugs
“I don’t care where he was visiting from but I would walk my [expletive] back from Texas before I would sleep in a home with bed bugs,” wrote a commenter, scarred by their traumatic past. “The worst three months of my life outside of my kid dying. Seriously. It can do real psychological damage. Not to mention financial damage.” Another person shared that they were “feasted on by an incessant train of bedbugs” in a cheap apartment they lived in. “I absolutely had psychological trauma from them,” they shivered.
Countless others in the comments shared their horror stories of how bedbugs genuinely messed up their lives and homes, with many now unable to sleep normally without the fear of being eaten alive. Still, some did get a good laugh out of QuarantineChronicles’ boyfriend’s creativity with his bed.
“This photo is absolutely frying me, it looks like a still image from a Paranormal Activity movie,” laughed a user. “Can’t have bed bugs if you have bed jugs,” joked a second. “Bad[expletive] album cover art tbh,” remarked a third.
Thankfully, OP reports that her boyfriend did not bring back any bedbugs from Texas. However, the poor man was allegedly traumatized by his visit. The goofy-looking jug bed wasn’t so goofy for him. “This was a last resort because initially he was sleeping on the couch and his entire arm got horribly attacked by the bedbugs,” she concluded.
