Residents of Bedford-Stuyvesant, New York, decided to stand up for one of their members against the NYPD during an alleged illegal eviction. A TikTok video from the scene showed numerous law enforcement officers and community members around the house. Surrounded by officers, someone could be seen changing the locks to the house, and then another person brought in boards to barricade the house. At some point, some members of the community got into a physical scuffle with some officers, leading to arrests. However, the community did not back down.
After what seemed like a lot of back-and-forth between both parties, towards the end of the video, a swarm of officers was seen departing the building as they got into their cars and left. One of the community members who was seen engaging with the officers noted that they came in trying to change the locks, but the community stopped them. The caption of the video noted that the homeowner is a Person of Color and that the officers, consisting of the City Marshal and NYPD, failed in their attempts and had to leave because they had “too many witnesses to their crimes.”
