A woman in New York is going viral online after she spoke about a recent frightening encounter she had with an armed man on the subway that left her very distressed. In the clip she posted to TikTok, which has received over 600,000 views, the mom said the incident happened while she was out with her baby on the E train at the Roosevelt Avenue station.

According to her, the man got on the train and, after a brief exchange with another passenger, started walking up and down the aisle with what she described as a gun, acting as though he might start shooting. The woman said that when he passed by her and her baby, who was in a stroller, she tried to avoid drawing his attention. “I didn’t know what to do,” she said in the video. “I just had to turn the carriage and look down and hope that he didn’t come by us.”

When the train doors opened, multiple passengers began getting off immediately. Once she was able to exit, she said she moved toward the stairs and tried to stay out of sight as the man also came onto the platform, shouting, “what’s up?”

The woman did not indicate whether anyone was harmed, but she later shared in the comments that the incident has been reported to authorities.

What People Are Saying About the New York Subway Incident

In the comments, many people found the woman’s experience terrifying and were relieved that she and her baby made it out safely. One person wrote, “This is absolutely traumatizing, especially in an enclosed space.” Another said, “I’m glad you and the baby are ok it’s so scary out here I hate it.” A third commented, “That’s devastating and breaks my heart. God protected u,” while a fourth remarked, “Living in the ny is a nightmare fr😭😭😭.”

Some also questioned whether the city even had safety measures in place and called for authorities to step it up. “It’s getting worse in this city, where are the cops,” one viewer asked. Someone else added, “Paying these [expletive] fares only to be scared every dang day! Do better Mamdani.”

A few people, however, were less sympathetic in the comments, with one netizen writing, “This is nothing new. There are stories everyday. Stay off the trains.”

The video continues to gain attention online, though there has been no update, as of the time of writing, on whether the man has been identified or apprehended.
