In a shocking turn of events, Jameela Jamil is defending Kim Kardashian. Jamil, best known for her work on The Good Place, has long been an outspoken advocate for body positivity and a critic of Kardashian, whom she claims perpetuates unrealistic beauty standards. Kardashian has been under fire all week after arriving at the Met Gala in a super-cinched corset dress. Per her Instagram, Jamil was asked by thousands of followers to weigh in on the controversy.
Jameela Jamil Gets Honest
Rather than criticize Kim Kardashian again, the actress said, “I am someone who is against diet products and diet culture. I haven’t spoken about Kim in years. I don’t think it’s fair to hold her entirely responsible for any beauty standard because she’s the recipient for attention, Without also asking who GIVES the attention?”
Jameela Jamil added that she sees Kardashian’s dress as an attempt to shock and go viral, blaming the media and society for continuing to push and consume this content. Jamil also stated that the designer (Margiela by John Galliano) and Kardashian’s stylist need to be held accountable, too. “Kim isn’t the problem. She’s a symptom of the way we treat women as a society,” she said.
Kim Kardashian Continues Posting
In her typical fashion, the topic at hand hasn’t responded to anyone’s criticism of her Met Gala dress. Instead, Kim Kardashian has been posting more footage of herself from Monday evening and promoting the upcoming season of her Hulu reality show, The Kardashians.
Jameela Jamil hasn’t responded to discourse over her opinion, either. Despite several followers leaving lengthy comments disagreeing with Jamil’s take, her focus has been on other passions. Jamil’s Instagram stories have included messages of support for the Palestinian city of Rafah and the start of Mental Health Awareness Month.
