If you like someone, you might as well continue to work with them. James Gunn is the kind of guy who tends to follow that path as he announces John Murphy, his usual go-to composer, will create the super score for Superman: Legacy. As the film heads toward production, the music will start to be created for the final film.

The announcement came on Instagram with a picture of the filmmaker and the composer giving one another a side hug on the red carpet for The Suicide Squad (seen below). For the many calls that need to be made for a film, the director wrote that his collaborator was “one of the first people” he phoned after wrapping up the script.

Due to how James Gunn works, Superman: Legacy needed a composer for more than just the score. He wrote that music has already been in the making. He wrote that “hours worth of music” has been created to “play on set as we shoot & use in the edit & that will eventually be recorded with a glorious symphony” in the final film.

The relationship between the two is relatively new compared to some other previous collaborators who pop up across the director’s work, like Michael Rooker. They worked together on The Suicide Squad, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Beyond that, the Superman: Legacy composer has worked on Kick-Ass, The Last House on the Left, and 28 Weeks and Days Later.

James Gunn is bringing plenty of friends and family with him to Superman: Legacy besides his composer. Once again, he will work with cinematographer Henry Braham, who shot the second and third Guardians movies, the Holiday Special, and The Suicide Squad. For the cast, he will reunite with his brother Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord and friend Nathan Fillion as the DCU’s Green Lantern.
