Television personality Jimmy Kimmel has quite the career. He hosts the Jimmy Kimmel Show on ABC, and it was just announced that he will host The Oscars. This will be his third non-consecutive year hosting. Wanda Sykes, Regina Hall, and Amy Schumer hosted it last year. It averaged close to 17 million viewers, which was an increase in viewership from the prior year. However, that viewership was still down from other years’ broadcasts.
The upcoming presentation of The Oscars will be the 95th ceremony. The Jimmy Kimmel hosted telecast of The Oscars will air on ABC on March 12th. Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner will produce the upcoming Oscars. The paid are veteran award show producers. Hollywood powerhouse Will Packer produced the 94th Oscars.
Glenn Weiss and Kirshner had this to say about Jimmy Kimmel and The Oscars in a joint statement:
“We’re super thrilled to have Jimmy score his hat trick on this global stage. We know he will be funny and ready for anything!”
Nominations for the 95th Oscar ceremony on ABC will come out on January 24th.
The Jimmy Kimmel ABC Contract
The news of Jimmy Kimmel hosting The Oscars for the third time comes after ABC announced that the host had signed a new three-year extension. This means that not only will The Jimmy Kimmel Show be around at least until its 23rd year, but that we can count on seeing the host on other ABC productions for quite a while.
In discussing Jimmy Kimmel hosting this year’s Oscars, Craig Erwich, the president of ABC Entertainment, Hulu & Disney Branded Television Streaming Originals, had this to say:
“Having Jimmy Kimmel return to host the Oscars is a dream come true. As we see every night on his own show, Jimmy can handle anything with both heart and humor, and we know that he will deliver the laughs and celebratory moments that define the Oscars. We love being the home of Hollywood’s biggest night and can’t wait to toast the success of this year’s cinema and storytelling.”
