A woman in Kentucky was brought to tears and left heartbroken after she split her children’s ashes with her now-ex-husband, their father. Heartbroken, the mother also had to give him the original urns, and while sad, she is also relieved, as she is now free of her former partner.

My heart is breaking. But I’m free because now there’s nothin tying him to me. I know my 2 babies and Gunner pups understands.

Whitney Frost, the mother, shared the heartbreaking moment on TikTok. She is a content creator who is the mother of Harrison, 6, and Riley, 8, both of whom were diagnosed with Neuroaxonal Dystrophy and passed away in 2022. The clip attached above went viral because her children remain an essential part of her life and her content. It garnered 1.4 million views, 125,900 likes, and close to 2,500 comments.

The Kentucky woman, in tears, sat in front of the camera and explained what would happen. Her ex-husband, Jason, was going to take Riley’s and Harrison’s original urns, as well as the original urn belonging to Gunner, their dog.

“I’m gonna be splitting up my kids so that half of them can go with their dad,” Whitney said. “And because Riley and Gunner were always together, I’m gonna send half of Gunner, too. So that Riley and Gunner can stay together.”

An Emotional Farewell

The mom, visibly emotional, proceeded to split the ashes, talking to her loved one’s remains, telling them it was “for the best.” He then talked to another woman in the room, saying that her ex-husband, who was also to receive their children’s funeral pictures, had asked her to leave the remains in his garage.

She refused, saying, “He can come in the house and get his kids.”

In a follow-up, the Kentucky woman explained that Jason was getting the original urns and pictures because she was keeping some items belonging to their kids. In Riley’s, Whitney kept her blanket and a set of pictures. She also kept Harrison’s snake toy and pictures. Finally, the mom also kept Gunner’s collar.

“I’m free because now there’s nothin tying him to me. I know my 2 babies and Gunner pups understand,” Whitney wrote in her first clip’s description.

Kentucky Citizens React

The video sparked multiple responses, some of which criticized Jason. One said, “Him wanting you to separate their ashes is messed up in my opinion.” Another one commented, “A man who would do this to his children’s mother is not a man. So disappointing.”

Others, however, believed the father had every right to keep his children’s ashes. One wrote, “I know this is heartbreaking, but if the dad wants some of his children’s remains, then he should get them.” Another one added, “Dads have rights, too.”

In another clip, Whitney explained that she wouldn’t keep the ashes away from her ex-husband, as the issue wasn’t about their marriage, but rather about the children they shared.
