Guns will be drawn, and horses will gallop next year. Horizon: An American Saga, directed, co-written, and starring Kevin Costner, is a two-part Western epic that has set its 2024 release dates with a new teaser trailer (seen below). The Yellowstone star will showcase his varied skills with Chapter 1 on July 28 and Chapter 2 on August 16.
Kevin Costner Returns to Director’s Chair and on the Big Screen for Horizon 2024 Release Dates
The film’s story is unknown but will span 15 years across the frontier, exploring stories of characters of settlers and Indigenous people. The original plan was to do a four-part epic that would tell individual Western stories that connected with each movie released every three months. That plan is uncertain to continue, but we will at least have half of that plan by next summer.
The teaser does not offer too much. We see beautiful landscape shots and the leading star on horseback before he turns around to shoot unseen enemies chasing him.
Kevin Costner will wear many cowboy hats for Horizon as he directed, co-wrote with debut writer Jon Baird, and led the two-parter Western. He will be joined by co-stars Sienna Miller (Anatomy of a Scandal), Jena Malone (The Hunger Games), Dale Dickey (Vice Principals), Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan: First Kill), Abbey Lee (Lovecraft Country), Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things), Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy), Jeff Fahey (Lost), Giovanni Ribisi (Avatar: The Way of Water), Sam Worthington (Avatar: The Way of Water), Will Patton (Outer Range), Danny Huston (Yellowstone), Michael Angarano (Oppenheimer), Luke Wilson (Stargirl), and Thomas Haden Church (Spider-Man: No Way Home).
Horizon is not the first time Kevin Costner sat in the director’s chair, but the first in about 20 years. He has previously directed 1990’s Dances with Wolves, 1997’s The Postman, and 2003’s Open Range.
