This year’s 11th issue of Shogakukan’s Big Comic Superior magazine announced that the Kotaro Lives Alone manga will end in two chapters. If the manga does not take a break, it would officially end in the 13th issue on June 9th. The manga’s 9th volume shipped in June 2022. As of now, though, there is nowhere to officially read the manga series.
Tsumura launched the manga in Big Comics Superior in 2015. Since then, the story has won an Electronic Manga Award in 2018 in the Boy’s Category. The Kotaro Lives Alone manga also inspired a live-action series that debuted in April 2021. A second season of the anime is currently in the works. The manga also inspired a Netflix anime series that debuted in March 2022. There is no confirmation about a possible second season for the anime.
Kotaro Lives Alone: A Thoughtful Look at Childhood
The “apartment comedy with laughs and tears” centers on a 4-year-old boy named Kotaro Sato.
His neighbor, Shin Karino, thought he only had to deal with the average problems that any thirty-something trying to make it as a manga artist would have to: Encroaching deadlines, artist’s block, frequent back pain, and all that. His life takes a turn for the strange, however, when he meets Kotaro, an incredibly precocious four-year-old who lives on his own in Shin’s apartment complex. Kotaro pays his own bills, makes his own food, and is much more capable than your average kindergartener. That said, he’s still just a kid, and soon Shin and the other tenants find themselves becoming the found family that Kotaro truly needs.
Many have praised the manga for being a fake out of their expectations. Watchers have repeatedly said they were not prepared for what the show had to offer regarding neglect, childhood, and other themes. Still, Kotaro Lives Alone earned a loyal following with its anime series, pushing for many to try to find places where they can read the manga.
