A Louisiana suspect facing several serious felony charges briefly escaped from a courthouse while preparing for a court appearance, marking the second time authorities say he has fled under similar circumstances. The incident occurred at the Tangipahoa Parish Courthouse in Amite on June 15 and ended less than 30 minutes later when law enforcement officers located and recaptured him nearby.

The video later spread across social media, with one of the most widely viewed posts appearing on Reddit’s r/PublicFreakout subreddit. There, footage of the Louisiana suspect fleeing the courthouse received hundreds of upvotes and generated discussion about the escape and the security concerns surrounding it.

The video shows 19-year-old Donnie Stevenson climbing over a gate near the rear of the Tangipahoa Parish Courthouse before running from the area. The footage captures the moment he leaves the secured section of the courthouse grounds but does not show the search that followed or his eventual recapture.

According to WBRZ, the Louisiana suspect escaped shortly after 10 a.m. while being transported for a court proceeding. Authorities said he was barefoot, wearing an orange jail-issued jumpsuit, and restrained at the time. Deputies, officers from the Amite Police Department, and a K-9 unit responded and began searching the surrounding area.

The search ended quickly. Investigators said Stevenson was found hiding underneath a truck roughly one block from the courthouse and was taken back into custody less than 30 minutes after the escape began.

The suspect is currently awaiting trial in a separate criminal case involving allegations of first-degree rape, aggravated kidnapping, armed robbery, and possession of stolen property. The charges remain pending, and he has not been convicted.

One of the most notable details to emerge after the incident was that this was reportedly not Stevenson’s first courthouse escape. Authorities said the suspect had previously escaped under similar circumstances.

Many online reactions focused on how quickly the escape ended. “Like bro, you are cuffed and wearing an orange jumpsuit. You ain’t getting far,” one user wrote.

Others focused on the apparent security lapse, questioning how an inmate with a prior escape history was able to flee again. Several commenters expressed disbelief that someone who had previously escaped under similar circumstances was given another opportunity to do so.

Some users argued that the incident reflected broader security failures rather than the actions of a single deputy, while others pointed out that the failed escape would likely only result in additional charges. A smaller discussion compared escape laws in different countries and how similar incidents might be handled elsewhere.

Others focused on the Louisiana suspect’s recapture under a nearby truck, saying the failed escape ended in a particularly embarrassing fashion. The investigation remains ongoing as officials review the incident and consider additional courthouse security upgrades.
