A Madame Web live-action movie sounds very promising for the fans of Spider-Man, as the character has a prominent role in the web slinger’s story. However, it seems like Sony has lost its grip on its Spider-Man Universe, releasing if not #1, but one of the worst Marvel movies ever. Morbius was holding the flag for having the worst reviews before this, and now Madame Web has somehow managed to portray a lesser outcome.
Madame Web Reviews: Morbin Time #2
Announced in 2019 by Sony Pictures, Madame Web‘s movie is set in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, but the timeline it belongs to has never been addressed.
The Meta reviews for the Madame Web movie are brutal and echo the same voice about two common conclusions: The script and CGI cohesion are nothing to talk about; some of the actors are trying their best, but the movie wastes them. Hence, the 29/100 Metacritic and 1.8/10 user scores mean that Madame Web makes watching Morbius a happy trip. So, is Madame Web the worst Marvel movie of all time based on its Meta score? Let’s take a look at the top 5 worst Marvel movies rated on Metacritic:
- Fantastic Four 2015 – 27
- Howard The The Duck – 28
- Madame Web – 29
- Punisher: War Zone – 30
- The Punisher – 33
Among 68 reviewed Marvel movies, Madame Web has achieved the 3rd spot from the bottom of the list. To make matters worse, Madame Web movie has also achieved another milestone on Rotten Tomatoes, harvesting 15 points out of 100. The film goes toe to toe with Morbius, which has 16/100 score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Sony Pictures has been releasing spin-off movies based on the characters of the Spider-Verse since 2018 with Venom. And with the reality in check, all these movies suffer the same fate, reaching less than a 50 Meta score. But has Sony stopped adding more to the mix? Nope. In fact, 2024 is a year that we have three Spider-Verse spin-off movies, with Kraven The Hunter and Venom 3 coming this Fall.
Madame Web is playing now in theatres.
