Comic book artist Mike Grell is working on finishing his miniseries for Maggie the Cat by starting a Kickstarter.
Famous for his work on the Green Arrow comic series and Legion of Super-Heroes, Grell announced he is launching the fundraiser to complete the unfinished Maggie the Cat series (via 13th Dimension):
“As one of the pioneers of creator-owned comics, Grell wrote and illustrated some of the industry’s most popular independent titles. Including Jon Sable, Freelance, Starslayer, Shaman’s Tears, Bar Sinister and Maggie the Cat.”
Maggie the Cat tells the story of Margaret Lyons and her marriage to British Lord Geoffrey Grimalkin. During their marriage, she discovers he had many mistresses, each with their own wealth given to them by Mr. Gremalkin. Margaret then begins her career as a master thief to steal back the riches but is blackmailed into joining the SAS and her majesty’s secret service.
Her first story was published in the Jon Sable, Freelance series. She eventually got her own two-issue run in the ‘90s but unfortunately, that’s where her comic career ended.
“Grell announced plans to launch a Kickstarter to fund the completion of the unfinished Maggie the Catseries with new pages and elements from Grell’s finished screenplay added to the original issues which will be repackaged as a 64-page deluxe square-bound book. It will be followed later in the summer by a second 64-page volume, concluding the action-packed tale with a special guest appearance by Jon Sable, Freelance.”
Variant covers by artist Chad Hardin (Harley Quinn) and Stephen B. Scott (Batman) will be available exclusively to backers of the Kickstarter. Other perks to backing the upcoming series for Maggie the Cat include T-shirts, original art and the chance to be drawn as a character in the story.
According to CBR, the first campaign for Maggie the Cat will launch March first.
