Is she worth it

We’ve all been there: one second, you think everything is going great. Young, good career- you think you found the ONE; what could possibly go wrong? Well, as one young lad found out, apparently, everything. He went from happy and secure in a fresh move to what we surmise is Florida, to having a bombshell ultimatum dropped right into his lap, and even worse, there’s a twist that makes the entire situation a lot more dicey. She has Borderline Personality Disorder, which complicates the entire situation further.

I [21M] have been put into an ultimatum by my partner [F24] and I’m not sure what to do?

In a post shared on Reddit by user ThrowRA6167, a young man described a nightmare scenario in which someone faced an ultimatum with a very short deadline. This is what he says about the current relationship status.

Today is June 22, and my 3-year anniversary with my girlfriend is in about two weeks. Since around November, she has given me an ultimatum that I must buy an engagement ring by our anniversary. As much as I see her as my future wife, we do have a few years between us in age, and we’re both still in our early 20s. I feel like there is still a lot of growing that needs to happen before I can make that financial commitment.

On top of this, he also revealed she suffers from BPD and has plans to quit her job and become a stripper. This after moving states to Florida, allegedly, and on a very truncated timeline. As you can imagine, for a topic like this,s a ton of folks chimed in to give the young man some good advice, as the situation seems tense and fraught.

“Ultimatums are never healthy for committed relationships. If you buy her a ring before you are ready, it’s pretty much a “shut up ring”, and neither partner should be comfortable with that.”

“Marry me or its over is never a good thing for any relationship. Tread carefully OP.”

“You are 21 years old. It sounds like she’s only going to quit stripping if you provide for her, which you aren’t ready to do at your age and for the reasons you outlined. I’m not sure what she’s doing at the age of 24 trying to get a 21 year old boy to marry her, but that alone means you’re too young for her and what she’s asking seems almost predatory. Like she can boss you around because you’re young naive and inexperienced”

Ultimately, this 21-year-old is caught between a rock and a hard place, trying to balance his own future against the unpredictable nature of his partner’s mental health struggles and a sudden and potential career pivot. Relationships require compromise, but when an ultimatum feels like a strict demand, it’s hard to bounce back. Only time will tell whether he decides to move on or take a chance and proceed with her demands.
