The next film in the Maze Runner series, entitled Maze Runner: The Death Cure, was originally scheduled to release February 17, 2017. Dylan O’Brien, the star of the series, was injured while performing a stunt on set in March, which led to Fox postponing all filming on The Death Cure and pushing the release date back to January 12, 2018. This caused a dramatic shift in the upcoming Fox release schedule, including two untitled Fox/Marvel films.
According to Deadline, the first of the untitled Fox/Marvel films has been pushed back from January 12, 2018, to March 2, 2018. The other has been moved up from July 13, 2018, or June 29, 2018. Other Fox films that have been affected by the delay to Maze Runner: The Death Cure include Murder on the Orient Express, Predator, and A Cure for Wellness.
Although the upcoming Fox/Marvel films are untitled, there are some likely contenders. An almost sure bet is that one of the two is Deadpool 2, as that has already been greenlit due to the original’s massive box office haul. The other could be any number of things, including the X-Force film (which has been announced but not given a release date), another X-Men film (rumored to be involving some take on the Dark Phoenix saga), or perhaps even another shot at The Fantastic 4 (probably not this one).
In addition to the Fox/Marvel films scheduled for 2018, Marvel has a few films scheduled to release that year as part of their Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Black Panther solo film, Avengers: Infinity War Part I, and Ant-Man and the Wasp are all scheduled to release that same year. Essentially, if you’re getting tired of superhero films, do not hold your breath for it to end anytime soon.
