The United States seems to be going down a dark road as people are struggling more than ever. It’s not just about the price hikes, but there is also the fact that ICE is kidnapping people right and left. The latest victim was a 51-year-old Maryland woman who was arrested or in other words kidnapped, by ICE agents. One of the agents was wearing a mask too. ICE agents’ brutality reached the point that they smashed through the Maryland woman’s car window to detain her. Her name is Elsy Noemi Berrios.
The Maryland woman’s daughter spoke to CBS News about what happened. According to her, she and her mother were on their way to work when their car was stopped by ICE agents. The agents then, as apparent in the footage, approached the car, asked for IDs, and then asked the Maryland woman to step out of the car. She knew her rights and asked for a search warrant before she stepped out. However, the ICE agents didn’t have one and they didn’t care about this. She proceeded to refuse to get out.
What Happens Next?
After the Maryland woman’s refusal, the ICE agents smashed the window and unlocked the car. They didn’t care about the well-being of the mother and daughter who were sitting inside the car when the glass was smashed. The window they smashed was the one next to the Maryland woman. Her daughter shared that she would have understood their actions if they had a search warrant for her mother. “There was no need for them to do all that,” she said.
You can see in the video that the ICE agents used force while arresting the Maryland woman after they took her out of the car. An ICE spokesperson shared a statement with WJZ that is honestly disgusting. They said:
“Elsy Noemi Berrios, 51, is an illegal alien. Salvadoran national and known affiliate of the violent transnational street gang, MS-13.”
Aside from being a disgusting statement, the Maryland woman’s attorney said that she received no evidence of this. If the ICE agents can’t produce either an arrest warrant or evidence for their claim, then how is this lawful in any way?
The woman’s daughter also shared that this isn’t their first encounter with ICE. They already went to their house twice this year, but when her mother asked for a warrant, they didn’t produce one. Therefore, she refused to leave her house in both times and the ICE agents had to leave. “I hope that they [ICE] don’t keep violating people’s rights,” her daughter said.
The Maryland woman Is now seeking Affirmative Asylum after her attorney said that she entered the USA undocumented in 2017. She is currently in a prison in Pennsylvania. Any updates will probably come after her hearing which is scheduled on Monday at an immigration court in New Jersey.
People Reacting to the Maryland Woman’s Kidnapping
People had strong reactions to the kidnapping of the Maryland woman. One said, “It’s immoral for goon squad cops to be masked.” When one person asked “why” someone replied and said, “Why do they need to hide?” Another found it unreasonable that the Maryland woman was part of any gang, as was claimed. “So do all immigrants have affiliations with MS-13 now? Kinda seems like it’s just a convenient way to detain and deport non white people,” they wrote. Another person wrote, “I’ve never heard of MS-13 before this year and then suddenly it’s everywhere. MS-13 this MS-13 that.” The reactions kept going as people defended the Maryland woman.
“Legal or illegal migrant, it takes a morally bankrupt piece of s**t to do that to do that [sic] to someone who’s [sic] only ‘crime’ was coming to the country.”
“Not the best call but don’t get mad when people start exercising their 2nd Amendment rights when they get their window smashed in like that.”
One person even said, “This is what fascism looks like.” The kind of brutality and violence being carried out by ICE agents is more dangerous than any immigrant will ever be. It’s as simple as that.
