Megan Fox has faced an immense wave of Instagram backlash after her “Ukrainian blow-up doll” comment was deemed offensive to the people of Ukraine and totally inappropriate as the country continues its war with Russia.
Shortly after the Super Bowl this year, the 37-year-old actress posted a photo of herself at the event, where she posed with singer Taylor Swift and the pop star’s boyfriend Travis Kelce, plus rapper fiance Machine Gun Kelly. While she’s gained over 2 million likes for the photo, the comments section has since exploded.
Megan Fox Shares Super Bowl Photo With Comment On Instagram
In a caption to her group photo, Megan wrote: “Oh my god guys look how different i…dont look at all. Turns out it was just a shadowy cell phone pic of me looking like a ukrainian blowup doll. when in REALITY i look like one of those super expensive silicone real sex dolls you can only get in japan 💁🏻♀️.”
While it would seem that the Transformers star was making a joke, her fans didn’t see it that way. Over 45,000 fans have liked a reply reading: “It’s very rude of you to speak like that about Ukrainian women, that’s how you showed yourself.”
Says That’s Not What She Meant
As over 1,800 users jumped in to discuss the drama, with many a Ukrainian national chiming in to slam Megan, the actress herself swooped in to address the comments. Opting out of deleting her original caption as many celebrities do, Megan kept her OG words live.
In response to the fan comment gaining so many likes, she wrote: “Dear God. That is NOT what I meant. Ukrainian women are hot af and so in my imagination the blowup dolls would also be hot.” Megan added: “Let a girl make a joke for F—- sake.”
Others also jumped in to question how appropriate the caption was. “Girl you had one opportunity to write a good post about this iconic pic and you write THIS? 😂😂😂,” a popular reply read.
“I guess xenophobia towards Eastern European is still a thing in Hollywood,” another user wrote.
Gaining over 10,000 likes was a fan replying: “Babe Ukraine is being annihilated in a war unprovoked. Pls can we just focus on that. Maybe raise awareness for that x just a thought x.”
Elsewhere, Fox has been making headlines for continuing to promote her Pretty Boys are Poisonous poetry book. Last fall, she debuted fiery red locks while attending a book reading for her work in New York City.
