You know the saying about assuming? Depending on what you assume about someone can turn racist pretty quick, especially if you’re using it to be mean or evil. When one Michigan woman was at a story minding her own business, a racist Karen had to be the center of her world. Just from taking a look at her skin color, she wanted to go off in a way racists are way too comfortable doing these days.
TikToker Chabibi posted a video of her encounter with what could be best described as a D-list villain. Captioned, “POV: Karen told me to go back to my own country,” followed by a few emojis, the video shows Chabibi verbally unloading on another woman. It started mid-conversation, but moments later, Chabibi reiterates what the Karen allegedly said and that was Chabibi to go back to her country.
Chabibi, clearly flabbergasted, tells the Karen “I was born here.”
The Karen responds, “Good for you. I’m glad you’re American,” but I don’t sound convinced and neither is Chabibi. You can hear her stuttering as she tries to explain herself. How’d she think this was going to unfold? Better yet, why’d she bother in the first place? What was the goal? People are way too comfortable with this level of ignorance.
“Why’d you tell me to go back to my country if I’m from America, you dumb [expletive]. Dumb fat [expletive],” Chabibi retorts as the woman is walking away.
People in Chabibi’s comments were overwhelmingly in favor of the TikToker.
One commenter applauded Chabibi, “Love how you kept insulting herrrr,” while another insisted with “need more of this energy.”
Another commenter pointed out the hypocrisy, “Meanwhile, they’re the ORIGINAL immigrants.” What American isn’t? And if it’s first come, first serve, Native Americans were here long before that Karen was.
One commenter thanked her for the cathartic experience, “This satisfied me more than you could ever understand.”
Racism has been alive and well in the US, and the political landscape since Trump has taken office has only emboldened this kind of behavior. Boomers and Karens alike feel like it’s totally okay to act like that. Chabibi knows how to handle them. Say what you want, but it doesn’t free you of the consequences of being a racist.
