It appears another huge star has signed on for Warner Bros and Legendary’s Minecraft movie. According to Deadline, Wednesday actress Emma Myers has officially joined the cast. The upcoming film is set to be a live-action adaptation of the hit sandbox video game by Mojang Studios. It’ll hit theaters on April 4, 2025, making it Myers’ first big theatrical release.
Although Myers has been acting since 2010, she only recently had her big breakthrough role by playing Enid Sinclair in Netflix’s Wednesday. The horror series, which also stars Jenna Ortega, became a huge hit following its premiere last November. In fact, it’s become the platform’s most-watched series ever. Most recently, Myers starred in the Netflix comedy Family Switch alongside Jennifer Garner and Ed Helms.
The “Minecraft” Movie Also Stars Jason Momoa
After tackling two major streaming projects, it seems Myers is heading to the big screen with the upcoming Minecraft movie. The actress’ casting comes days after Peacemaker star Danielle Brooks and Just Mercy actor Sebastian Eugene Hansen also joined the film. The trio will appear alongside Jason Momoa, who’s known for starring in the Aquaman, Fast and Furious, and Game of Thrones franchises.
According to Deadline, the Minecraft movie will begin production in New Zealand at the end of December. However, further details about the project have yet to be revealed, including its plot. Information about the film’s characters also remains a mystery.
Minecraft is just the latest video game to get a live-action adaptation. On Saturday, Dec, 2, Prime Video released a teaser trailer for its upcoming Fallout series. The show, which will premiere on April 12, is based on the popular video game of the same name. It’ll star Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins, Kyle MacLachlan, Xelia Mendes-Jones, and Aaron Moten.
A live-action movie about the Legend of Zelda video games is also in the works. However, it appears to still be in early development as the cast has yet to be announced.
