Republican Congressman Tom Emmer mistakenly called President Donald Trump a c*nt or a con — no one really knows. However, some citizens don’t think it was a mistake after all. The Minnesota House of Reps member made the speech blunder during the National Republican Congressional Committee’s (NRCC) annual fundraiser.
The NRCC gala featured some high-profile personalities who had paid at least $300,000 to attend the event. Emmer was giving his opening speech before he made the vulgar blunder. However, he appeared to stumble through that as well.
“Hello, fellow Republicans, no! Hello, feb… feh… fellow Republicans! Where are ya?… I know this is the uh, this is the cheap time. You get to hear from me. Then, you’re gonna get energy out of Steve Scalise. And you’re gonna get some energy out of our Speaker, Mike Johnson. But guess what? The show is Donald J. Trump. So get ready,” Emmer said at the beginning of the event.
The congressman also spoke about the president’s accomplishments, saying that in 100 days, the president has “delivered endless wins” for the people of America. He referenced Trump’s new immigration laws, saying that America is back to its former glory because invasion at the southern border has ceased and fraud is at an all-time low.
Moments later, the Minnesota congressman appeared to say “President C*nt,” before he quickly amended his statement saying, “President Donald Trump is counting on us. The American people are counting on us, and our friends in this room and grassroots supporters across the country are counting on us.”
The slip-up went viral on social media, and many citizens think Emmer was right to refer to the president with such language. One user said, “An honest Republican, at least for a second or two,” and another said, “When you accidentally say the name you call him in private in public.”
More citizens reacted to the blunder, saying, “That’s how we know what everybody calls him behind his back,” and “Exactly! He’s so used to saying it behind closed doors that it was about to come out naturally, but then he realized he wasn’t behind closed doors anymore.”
Emmer’s speech blunder came amid the implementation of Trump’s tariffs, which has all but caused pandemonium country-wide. Many citizens seem to hold a grudge against the president concerning his new policies, and some affected countries have also retaliated with their increased tariffs.
When it was time for the president to give his speech at the NRCC dinner, he bragged that world leaders have been cozying up to him in an attempt to get the tariffs reduced. “These countries are calling us up, kissing my a**” to negotiate deals on tariffs,” Trump said, per The Independent.
Hours later, he pressed even harder on the tariffs and imposed a 104% tariff on Chinese imports.
