A mother in Missouri discovered that she had been unintentionally poisoning her 3-month-old daughter by using an automatic formula maker.
The mother, Layna, shared a video explaining what happened and how she had been “unintentionally” poisoning her daughter, Stevie, for the past five weeks. She said Stevie had been in and out of hospitals for various reasons before the family discovered that a Baby Brezza formula maker was allegedly poisoning their daughter.
Layna then showed a picture of the device in question. Baby Brezza is a brand of baby-feeding products best known for its automatic formula maker, which prepares bottles by dispensing measured amounts of water and powdered formula at a selected temperature. She explained that the device was designed to make preparing bottles more convenient for parents.
Layna said she had been exclusively formula-feeding Stevie for the past five weeks because she could no longer produce breast milk. She later took her daughter to the pediatrician after noticing “some onset symptoms.”
One of the symptoms Layna noticed was that Stevie was losing weight despite increasing her formula intake. “She was drinking like 50 ounces a day of formula from the Baby Brezza. Mind you, she’s 3 months old. She should only be averaging about like 27 to 35 on a good day of formula,” she said.
Layna also noticed that her daughter was urinating frequently, leading her to suspect that Stevie might have diabetes. The medical team conducted an EEG, which came back normal. However, the baby’s bloodwork showed concerning results. “Everything was off,” Layna said.
What Happened Next
Layna then shared screenshots of her daughter’s bloodwork, with several results marked as “abnormal.” She said she spoke with the doctor, who had never heard of Baby Brezza. According to Layna, the doctor left the room to look up the device online before returning and showing the parents information about lawsuits involving allegations that Baby Brezza machines had diluted baby formula.
“Water for a baby is poison,” Layna said while explaining how she believed the device had affected her daughter’s health. “She was mostly consuming water. So everything that she was drinking was basically water,” she added. Layna claimed that the machine had not dispensed enough formula, leaving Stevie with an inadequate amount of formula in her bottles.
Layna said she had noticed that the formula looked very diluted after the Baby Brezza dispensed it. After Stevie was admitted to the hospital, the family learned that she had gained 68 grams of fat. “A baby at her age typically averages around 27 to 28 grams of fat,” Layna added.
The mother said she wanted to share her experience to warn other parents about what had happened to her daughter. She acknowledged that many people have positive experiences with Baby Brezza but argued that not all machines are made exactly the same way. “I, unfortunately, had to learn the hard way, and my daughter had to pay the prices of it,” she said.
Layna continued warning other parents about the potential risks before saying, “I literally would not wish this upon my worst enemy because watching your baby go through what she had to go through this past week, no baby should ever experience anything like that.”
She also said she would always carry “mom guilt” over the situation, even if it was not directly her fault, adding that she wished she had noticed the problem sooner. Layna was grateful that the family discovered what was happening before Stevie’s condition potentially led to organ failure. However, she said her daughter had not yet fully recovered. It remains unclear whether the family plans to take legal action.
Viewers Divided Over Missouri Mom’s Experience
Viewers online had mixed reactions to the Missouri mother’s story. While some blamed her for what happened, others sympathized with her and shared similar experiences. “This happened to us 11 years ago and I have no idea how this damn company is still in business‼!” one person wrote. Another commenter offered Layna words of support, saying, “You noticed. You took action. You learned. You are a good mom. Don’t let anyone ever tell you you differently.”
More viewers came to Layna’s defense, with one person criticizing those who were judging her for sharing her experience. “This comment section is exactly why moms don’t speak up about stuff. She’s here EDUCATING yall so you don’t make the same mistake and these comments are just full of judgement,” the commenter wrote. Another person reacted to the story with a joke, saying, “Being broke has saved me once again.”
The video prompted discussions about the importance of checking baby-feeding devices to ensure they are working properly. Many also emphasized the value of sharing personal experiences to warn other parents about potential risks and help them avoid similar situations.
