A USPS postal worker in Missouri experienced quite the surprise when he discovered a handgun inside a mailbox on his route. Reddit user Zerochronic, the mailman in question, had posted his discovery on r/USPS, where commenters quickly identified it as “a Glock with a laser sight and a 24-round magazine.” What might have been a shocking find to many wasn’t so startling for Zerochronic, as he even ended up touching the weapon without thinking.
“Well, my tired [expletive] saw it fall on the ground, so I put it back in the mailbox,” the USPS worker recalled. “Then realized I just put my prints on a gun.. so [I] called work, and they had a postal inspector deal with it.” Beyond an inspector dealing with the weapon, there wasn’t much to say beyond that, OP claims. Though some Redditors would have preferred that there was some dark secret behind a large-magazine Glock stored away in a mailbox.
Some Redditors Believed the Handgun Found in the Missouri Mailbox Could Have Been Used in a Crime
One person claimed they would have just punched out for the day after calling the police and a supervisor to deal with an unsecured firearm. “But I’m not getting out to touch that,” the Reddit user remarked. “It might be a murder weapon. At most I would stay in the area to make sure that no children were near enough to see it and pick it up.”
“I don’t know what state you live in, but I’d call the cops where I’m at,” said another serious-sounding individual. “You goin postal?” joked a third.
On the other hand, a top-upvoted commenter who’s also likely in the postal service resonated with Zerochronic’s alleged reaction: they couldn’t care less. “My tired [expletive] would throw mail on top of it. Homeowner will know I saw it, but will also know I couldn’t give less of a [expletive],” they remarked.
One person suggested that the Missouri USPS mailman should have just waited at the mailbox until the cops arrive after calling 911, claiming they could get a “free two-hour break” out of the deal. Unfortunately for Zerochronic, that’s not what happened: “me still having to finish my route + OT with 2 hours less time now yay.”
