A man in Missouri was so taken aback by his mother’s close friend’s decision to replace a family photo with President Trump that he had to share it online. The son in question, Joeltheconner, posted a picture of the family friend’s photo wall to r/pics, where it went viral, garnering tens of thousands of upvotes and plenty of comments. Unfortunately for the woman, thousands of Redditors, including her close friend’s son, shamed her over her choice of home decor.
One commenter claiming not to be American wrote that even though they “don’t have a horse in this race” with US politics, they still felt the photo replacement with Trump was unbelievable. “As an American, it’s very crazy,” Joeltheconner said in response, throwing his mom’s friend under the bus for her decision. The majority of the post’s comment section was even harsher.
Thousands Slammed the Woman for the Photo and Her Support of Trump
“All MAGA parents I’ve ever known are toxic,” accused a user. “Why are these people always so weird?” remarked a second. “Now imagine if somebody does this with OBAMA and what would the Trumpsters say?” mocked a third. “North Korean behavior. They love dear leader to an irrational level, entrenched in their lunacy,” wrote a fourth.
Many others echoed the sentiment that it’s allegedly a common North Korean practice to put up the leader’s portrait in one’s home. Commenters accused the Missouri woman of being in a cult or false religion, one person going even as far as to say this was “false idol worship” by a “white Christian nationalist.”
While many people naturally see President Trump as a politician, his devoted supporters see him as an icon, someone whom they can look up to and follow. For instance, a girl was recently thrilled to receive a heartwarming letter from the White House, while some see stoically putting up with the gas prices as loyalty to the President. On the flip side, many of those denouncing Trump see any sort of support from his followers as cult-like, as the thousands of Redditors did with this story’s woman and her portrait.
Any display of strong support from either major political side is bound to see heated backlash online, and someone putting up a photo of the President, even in the privacy of their own home, is bound to ruffle some feathers.
