Police already don’t have the best reputation, so it’s understandable why a mother accused an Oklahoma officer of the worst after stopping her daughter. USLandGrab-com on Reddit posted about her 18-year-old’s run-in with a cop, who she felt wrongfully pulled her over. It was the daughter’s first solo trip from Virginia to Texas in her dad’s truck when an officer pulled her over in Oklahoma City and questioned her.
USLandGrab said the cop approached her daughter, then said, “You aren’t [registered owner]. I need to see some ID.” This was already a questionable reason enough for her to be pulled over, but then he asked a stranger question. “Are you alone?” is what he allegedly asked before leaning in and looking around the back seat.
The officer finished the encounter with some small talk before letting the daughter go. USLandGrab says he didn’t give a warning, citation, or reason why he pulled her over, though she hadn’t done anything illegal in the first place to warrant his actions. “He ran a plate on a truck doing nothing wrong, saw a man’s name, saw a teenage girl driving alone with out-of-state tags, and stopped her. Then he confirmed she was alone,” wrote USLandGrab.
Fortunately, the 18-year-old made it safely to Texas without issue, but the mother is still furious that the officer in Oklahoma made that stop and demanded to know what his reasoning was. While the daughter was too nervous to get any information to identify who the cop was, the mother is determined to get answers. “This is the stuff that makes people distrust police,” she concluded.
The Mother Claims Her Friend in Law Enforcement Accused the Oklahoma Officer of Wrongdoing
She updated her post with a suggestion from a friend who she says works in law enforcement. “It appears to be a 4th Amendment violation and, at the very least, illegal detention. I would consider contacting an attorney,” was their accusation. Redditors in the comments were of the same mind and demanded that the officer be looked into for all this.
“I can’t believe that’s a legal stop. A driver not being the registered owner of a vehicle is not cause for suspicion,” pointed out a user, with over five thousand others upvoting in agreement. “No it’s not a legit stop. It’s a cop looking for women to talk to. File a complaint with his agency,” accused another.
“This [is] why so many people video their stops. No one trusts the police, and rightly so,” added a third. “They are supposed to serve and protect. Not scare and harass,” USLandGrab wrote in response.
The dialogue between the mother and Redditors continued in the comments, with many of them suspecting the officer of acting suspiciously. While there isn’t any evidence from the policeman’s side of the story of his innocence or wrongdoing, plenty of people already assume he was after the 18-year-old daughter. With policemen already in such a bad light in today’s age, it’ll be hard to convince anyone otherwise without proof.
