The Steamworks is a minigame system in Monster Hunter World Iceborne that awards various items for playing. In order to use the Steamworks you’ll need to gather fuel for it, which can be done in a variety of ways. Natural fuel is awarded for completing any quests in the game, similar to how other vendors change between quests. There is a cap on natural fuel, so you’ll want to use it whenever you get a notification that it’s fuel. The second method is gathering fuel in the wild for ore deposits. These deposits are found in the Guiding Lands and you can check out our Fastest Mining Route guide to find the most optimal path. The third option is to use other ore materials as fuel, but this is inefficient and those materials are better served for crafting.
Monster Hunter World Steamworks Minigame
The Steamworks minigame in Monster Hunter World is relatively simple, but does have a frustrating element of randomness. Each play costs 10 fuel, pulling from natural fuel first before getting to stored fuel, which comes from mining. With each pull, you’ll need to put in a three button sequence, which is random each time. The more of the sequence you get correct, the better items and more steam you will get. Getting none of the the sequence correct still rewards items and steam, so don’t sweat it too much. Earning steam will build the meter at the top, which holds between uses, so don’t worry about needing to fill it in a single interaction.
There are three levels: yellow, orange, and red. When it reaches red, it kicks into Overdrive, offering better items and a faster pace of use. Completing this will reward the Overdrive bonus item, which is always listed when you start using the Steamworks. You will also get a bunch of bonus items for completing the overdrive sequence. Here’s what you can earn for playing the Steamworks minigame.
