Any good fighting game with a plethora of characters deserves a tier list, and MultiVersus isn’t the exception. With an eclectic roster full of familiar fighters we’ve seen in other media, picking only one might feel daunting. And even when you pick your main, you might wonder if they are good enough to tackle any challenge. Don’t fret because we’ve prepared a tier list showcasing how good (or bad) each fighter is in their respective roles.
Assassins
Many players might opt to choose an Assassin as their first character in MultiVersus, and with how popular they are, we’ll open the tier list with them. Assassins are a great choice for those who want to get close and personal with other players. They hit hard, move fast, and have some killer combos. However, they can get knocked out from the stage extremely easily, so you need to pay attention during a fight. Here are the best and worst in the role:
Tier | Character(s) |
---|---|
S | Arya Stark, Harley Quinn |
A | Finn |
B | Stripe |
C | Marvin the Martian |
If you don’t mind characters with a high skill ceiling, Arya and Harley should be the first fighters you should unlock. Arya has some of the game’s most intricate combos and can steal one’s face, turning into them for a while. It’s no wonder that even after the beta, she remains the best Assassin. However, Harley is great due to her versatile kit with remote explosions and DoT effects. Finn landed on A Tier because, while fun to use, you need to manage his resources, such as coins, to make the most out of him. Stripe, while great, has slow abilities for an Assassin. And Marvin, even with his gadgets, doesn’t perform as well as others in the role.
Bruisers
Most of MultiVersus‘ characters belong to the Bruiser role, so expect a longer tier list for this one. These characters are all-rounders. Bruisers are the best for newcomers, and while they don’t excel at one particular thing, they can hold their own against other foes. Here is our personal ranking for this role:
Tier | Character(s) |
---|---|
S | Banana Guard, Shaggy, Jake |
A | Batman, Taz |
B | Morty |
C | Black Adam, Garnet, LeBron James |
This one was a bit challenging to make. For Bruisers, you have extremely good ones or some less than-ideal ones, and rarely a few in the middle. For the best, you can’t go wrong with Banana Guard, Shaggy, and Jake the Dog. Shaggy is the whole package, with its ultra-instinct born from a meme. With ranged options and strong melee attacks, Shaggy can carry you through any type of content. However, Banana Guard is the most balanced one, with a full kit that makes this character look like a Swiss army knife. And contrary to his partner, Jake is pretty useful as a Bruiser, with only a few fighters being able to counter him.
Sadly, the remaining fighters are not too strong in the role. While strong at long-range and good for applying debuffs, Gotham’s Dark Knight lacks the strength other Bruisers have. Taz sits comfortably in the middle, being either the best Bruiser or the worst one, depending on who uses him. Morty is extremely challenging to master, and the remaining three have very convoluted mechanics that you might find challenging to pull off during a fight.
Mage
Those leaning toward a more long-ranged playstyle will find Mage characters suitable when playing. They won’t have many options at melee, but at a distance, they’ll be able to make any opponent fly off the stage. Here’s our tier list for mage characters in MultiVersus:
Tier | Character(s) |
---|---|
S | Bugs Bunny, The Joker |
A | Rick |
B | Reindog |
C | Gizmo, Tom & Jerry, Velma |
Seeing Bugs Bunny in S-tier shouldn’t be a surprise. As one of the most iconic cartoon characters ever, he excels at his role. The fact that he can throw projectiles left and right and overwhelm opponents in seconds makes him a force to be reckoned with. Also, we have The Joker in the S-tier, which isn’t surprising either. As the new villain on the block, he has powerful projectiles and other tricks up his sleeve to allow him to stay on the stage safely.
Despite being the smartest man in the universe, Rick falls into the A-tier. The reason why he’s here is because his portal gimmicks are hard to pull off but rewarding when done right. Reindog is more of a supporting character for many and is rarely seen during certain fights. And the ones at the bottom are good in the right hands, but their kits don’t stand out as much.
Tanks
Last but not least, we couldn’t leave Multiversus‘ tanks outside of this tier list. These ones are anyone’s safest bet when it comes to staying on the stage and protecting others. However, they don’t have a lot of offensive capabilities or much movement, for that matter. Still, they are great to use and can knock enemies far away if you know how your main character works.
Tier | Character(s) |
---|---|
S | Superman |
A | Jason, Wonder Woman |
B | Iron Giant |
C | Steven Universe |
The Man of Steel takes the crown as the best tank in MultiVersus. While he can take punches like a champion, he’s on top of everyone else because of his mobility and crowd-control skills. Jason is the embodiment of a tank, and while he can hit hard, his mobility is awful. Despite being my main character, Wonder Woman lacks good long-range skills, and while her mobility isn’t bad, her damage pales in comparison. Lastly, the Iron Giant, the biggest fighter in the game, is fantastic at knocking everyone out. However, his movement is extremely slow, so you need to learn the layout of a stage to use it right. Steven Universe, while versatile and also a Mage, doesn’t shine in either role due to a lackluster kit.
Ultimately, choosing who you bring to a fight is up to you. While we think a few fighters don’t have the chops to make it to the top, you might be the best at using them and proving us wrong. So, don’t be afraid to try them all during combat and find the character you’ll use the most in this crossover fighting conundrum.
